Financial Strategy

Strategic initiatives require investment spending. Our strategic planning process examines whether acquiring companies or business units will be faster and more effective than internally building the relevant capability. Under either plan, clients often will need to access the capital markets to obtain the necessary financial resources to successfully execute their business plans. Our goal is to help our clients complete acquisition or financing transactions - as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Longview generally gets involved with companies at the beginning of the usual 6-9 month investment cycle, but we are fleet enough to be inserted later in the process. We work as management advisors and project leaders, developing and polishing the plan, the pitch, and the team to accelerate the investment process. We will work to target investors and make relevant introductions, but our focus is less on initiation and more on positioning and preparing the client to pass due diligence and close the transaction.

Capital Formation

Raising private capital is a rigorous, stressful, demanding process - not to mention time-consuming and extremely distracting - with due diligence cycles generally lasting four to eight months. Control transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions or the sale of a company, can take even longer. The process could be accelerated, but CEOs and their teams are consumed by daily pressures. And once capital is successfully obtained, getting the most out of the relationship with investors requires continuous effort.

Longview shepherds the entire fundraising process, assisting management in articulating the business case to potential investors, developing supporting documents - business plans, financial models, investor presentations - and modifying them in response to investors' questions and concerns.

Leadership roles in previous financing transactions include:

  • Initial public offerings (IPO)
  • Secondary public equity offerings
  • Seed-round investments
  • Venture capital investments
  • Merger and acquisition transactions (as both buyer and seller)
  • Senior and subordinated debt financings and expansions of bank credit
